Newt environment question-

I have a quick question.

Are fire belly newts aquatic or aquatic/terrestrial? Im not sure how to setup my new tank for when my firebellies arrive.

To answer your question, they'll need an aquatic set-up with a small terrestrial area. I recommend reading this care sheet on firebelly newts. If you have any questions afterwards post them in this thread.

Hi Nedim. Your question is unanswerable. Cynops orinetalis (the scientific name of the newt to which you are referring) are mainly aquatic, with a terrestrial phase in juveniles, but still need some places to rest that are partially out of the water.

I would suggest a tank filled about halfway with water with plants, wood, and floating platforms (lily pad, corkbark, turtle dock, etc) sticking out of the water.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
