Hi all! I'm planning to set up a 30 gallon (long) tank in a 50-50 style. I have a california newt now. What else can i add with this newt to make the tank more "hoppy"? And that will get along well with him. I thinking ghost shrimp, dwarf albino frog(s), fire belly newts (and maybe other kinds of newts as well), and fire belly toads. Are these good choices???

Out of all four you have suggested, only Ghost Shrimps might work okay. But the shrimps might very likely turned out ot be food.

I would recommend much more water for Tarichas. You really only need a few places (like floating cork bark) for them to get out of the water on. (This is lots easier, too!)

And, like everyone else, you can't mix newt species, or most species at all actually. Just stick with the taricha and maybe some ghost shrimp (or white clouds if you must).

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
