Fire Salamander Food

I've had my fire salamander for nearly a year, and received him as an adult. Websites usually list mealworms, waxworms, and crickets as being ideal food for fires.
My salamander will not touch mealworms however, and often ignores the crickets. I'm worried about the damage that an all-waxworm diet may be doing to him. Is there anything else he will eat as readily? Are waxworms really that bad?

Thanks

Stock his terrarium with some woodlice. Small slugs are also welcome snacks. Regular earth worms, fire salamanders can be trained to take them from tweezers or just drop em somewhere in front of them.

Wax worms are quite fattening, and should not be fed to your Fire Salamander exclusively.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
