Well here are the questions:

1. Can i use worms from the empty lot next to my house? I don't think there is any reason to fertilize that area.

2. Will those worms (the ones from the empty lot) offer better/different nutrional values than the store bought nightcrawlers? I would like to offer some different tasting worms, that is if mudpuppies can taste.

I pick my own worms from my unfertilized lawn, and my newts eat them with vigor, just as store bought nightcrawlers. I am sure the nutritional value is pretty much equal, or the taste is the same.

I think my newts like the worms fresh from the yard better than the store-bought. Elektra (my Tylo) won't even eat store-bought ones anymore! She can tell the difference!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
