I just got a paddle tail newt and the pet store labelled it wrongly as a fire bellied newt. Any ways, I'm wondering what kind of food is the best kind to feed it. Does anybody know if it likes newt bites or what kinds of foods it likes best?
I couldnt get anything else though besides newt bites because the pet store people didnt have anything else really.

Happy New Year, Lily!

Paddletails are about the least picky when it comes to food. They'll eat just about anything. The majority of us use earthworms, salmon pellets, crickets, waxworms, and decapitated meal worms as a staple. You can also use pretty much any soft-bodied insect larvae or worm. I buy my earthworms from Walmart, or any local bait shop.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
