Nice pics yet again Tim. We have seen so many different colour phenotypes of both ensicauda and pyrrhogaster from you; so how many animals of each species do you keep?
I broke out the Windex last night so subsequent pics should be less spotty.
The leaves in there that I collected from a mountain river make great background for pics and I've decided to add them to most of my tanks. They also seem to be a hit with the newts, making the tank environment less monotonous and more like their natural environment.
Jesper, that's a trade secret
Let's just say I have a "broad representative selection" of each species. The ensicauda pictured above is the same as that made famous (?) by the Caudate Culture logo.
Are those some sort of maple leaves Tim? I planted an Acer platanoides ‘Crimson King' in my garden some years ago and use the leaves (bright red in summer) in several terrestrial tanks. http://hort.science.orst.edu/classes/hort226/acplc4.htm
Very rot-resistant once they dry.
Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation
Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
