It's hard to tell in these pictures, but the gills and eyes are visible:

I wish these forums enabled straight html! I spent ages figuring this out because I was using the wrong slash.

Hi Shaun,

Great pictures, I can see the eye spots in the third photo. Are the bubbles in the photos from a bubbler in your tank?

Nope, the bubbles are just clinging to the inside of the container and they haven't gone away yet because the eggs were moved their recently. I'm actually keeping them in plastic containers that I took from a grocery store (you can see the recylable sign in the fifth picture). The containers are the ones that they dole out the stuffed olives and potato salad into. Once they hatch they're off to a rubbermaid tub, and then a 10 gallon tank. I would try to take some pictures of my Triturus Karelinii eggs, but Eric's newts did such a great job of wrapping them in leaves that there isn't much to see. Thank goodness Taricha is more confident (or maybe lazier).

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
