I was looking through a wholesale list from China and saw Echinotriton chinhaiensis for sale at $1.50ea.They are also offering Tylototriton verrucosus for $3.00ea and Pachytriton spp. at $1.00ea.
I don't know where this wholesalers source is but since the minimum order is $2000 I have a feeling large numbers are being harvested somewhere...
The webpage is: http://www.monet.nl/china%20reptiles.htm look at the bottom of the page

Yeah, that's been online for 4 or 5 years now. They don't really have Echinotriton, they have P. chinensis. Also, they have a terrible reputation for customer service and ripping people off.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
