These beautiful creatures have been morphing at 5 cm since a few days ago.

When they start to swim and float around the surface of the water, they're ready to leave it, and are removed.

As shown here, there are roughly three variations in color/pattern to be observed with this initial batch of morphs:

1) light brown with pronounced black mottling and minimal silver-blue speckling
2) dark brown with subdued black mottling and minimal to ample silver-blue speckling
3) dark brown with high degree of silver-blue speckling

The list of variations may need to be expanded when the 20-some others morph in the coming days.

The colouration of the juvenile lichenatus is always something to be admired. The speckles upon them make them look as if they were dusted with glitter...(or somebody took a toothbrush of paint and spattered them with it) LOL!

Very beautiful pictures Tim, as always!.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
