Minimum temp for P. labiatus

Hi, I have a Pachytriton labiatus, and I was wondering what the minimum acceptable temperature for it would be in the wintertime. Can P. labiatus tolerate temperatures in the 40s-50s (Fahrenheit)? Or is that just too cold?

Rose, That would be fine...Most newts need a winter dormancy time to breed anyways...

Hi Hayden,
Thanks! By the way, how often should the newt be fed at this temperature? I've never had the temp drop this low before in winter, and I normally feed my newt about 3 times a week when the temp is in the high 60s-low 70s.

my current temp readings of my new setup are right around 73 deg. is this too warm, or is she gonna be ok in that temp?

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
