We're going out to CA in a couple of weeks and are going to take a day trip to Kern Co. to try to find some E.E. Platensis. I know there are some folks here who are experienced at finding these guys so i was hoping maybe you could give us some pointers and maybe help us zero in on locations that would be good to visit.

That's a very good point on the exploitation. I can be somewhat naive when it comes to trusting people to only have good intentions.

I just got back from Kern county yesterday. I did find a few juvy croceater at the very highest elevations, so I expect you'll have to do the same for platensis. By this time of year you tend to find juvies more than anything. Stay on northeasterly slopes.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
