Lack of color

So today I noticed that a LOT of the color looks like it drained out of Mugatu's gills.
They were hot pink, now theyre sort of a peach color with 1 small hot pink patch.
He also has black spots at the base of his gills.
I have no idea what could be going on, but Im worried about him.
Help??

What color are his eyes?

When did you notice this (noon? 8pm?)

What was he doing when you noticed?

It doesn't sound like anything to me. They change color depending on a number of factors. If they're sleeping, the gills will be very pale. If they're active, the gills will be more bright.

His eyes are black, I noticed it in the morning. He wasnt really doing anything when I noticed.
Should I worry about the black spots at the base of his gills?
I just get worried about him lots. Ive become pretty attatched to the little guy.

As leucistic axolotls age, they tend to get more black spots. If they look like normal coloration, they probably are.

Well my axie 'moomin' goes pale sometimes. Usually before she has her bloodworm then her gills go bright red as she's eatting.
Moomin also has back on the base of her gills. Also the tips of her feet and tail (sign od maturity) and one single black dot on her back. Its just markings

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
