ok i think my girl axi has eaten gravel, my gravel is small and once i have seen her eat it before and pass it so i am hoping she will do the same again, but i just want to know are there any ways to speed up the passing of the gravel. I just changed my gravel to, much larger and impossible to eat.

Dan - Is the axolotl in the tank where you just changed the gravel? If it is then keep a close eye on the ammonia and nitrite. Changing your substrate takes away part of your biological filter and you could see water quality problems.

How large of rocks did you replace them with? If they will fit in her mouth, she will still try to eat them. I had one swallow a rock that was nearly as large as its head.

I'm not aware of a way to speed up the passing of the rocks. As long as she keeps eating she will hopefully pass them or puke them back up on her own.

I have actually just puy larger flater stones over the exsisting gravel and they r easier to take out and put bk in just to keep that balance. What happened to the your axi which ate that stone??

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
