Separating males from females ?

The least I can say is that my Axies are pretty active in 'playing doctors'

... for the 3rd time within 2 months, on of my females has laid eggs all over the place. The previous hatchlings are not even 2cm long.

I've read elsewhere that someone lost his female from getting babies too often.

Question is : Is there any way to somehow prevent them from making youngsters over and over again aside from physically separating them ?

For the time being I dont have the means to buy another tank and also I dont want them to screw each other to death

lol... You can buy a tank divider which is a plastic sheet with holes in it which clips to the top of the tank. They can then stay in the same tank.. i have one just incase anything happens.

I am not aware if you can do anything like neutering with axies tho...

I think the best bet would be to get a divider then you wont have to get another tank.

At the risk of being inappropriate. Put the male in a condom with holes cut out for paws and gills...





I was only joking....before everyone writes in!

if anyone does decide to do that though then take a pic!

my mate has just finishdoin photography at uni n she wants to take a pic of one of my axies on a velvet cushion. or take a pic of both then cut n paste the pix....dont think she was bein that serious tho...would be cool though.

I would hope no one is that silly to do either put them in a condom or takes photos out of the water!

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
