Ok, until recently i had 4 axys in one big tank, and until now i knew 2 older ones were male and the younger 2 (1 male other unknown) , well it was looking like i had a female!? so I have a spare 3 foot tank and got it ready, and located a female so it could keep her company, well she arrived wednesday and i put her in the tank and am quarentine-ing her, so i get up this morning and the little mite have sperm-a-wotsits all over the tank!!!!!

I think they knew i was going to remove her and made the most of it!!!!!

I had two large males, and one presumably female. So the two large males were dropping spermatophores all over the place, and the presumed female decided that might be a good time to remind his buddies that he also was male. He had never developed a cloaca, so I just assumed it was female, as the other two had large cloacas for quite some time. These guys do some weird things.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
