In Tank Filter Confusion

Hi All,I have a "Aqua One Maxi Series Internal Filter Model 101F" The tank is approx. 40 litres. The filter contains a sponge type filter approx. 4cmx4cmx10cm and the maintenance instructions say to clean this filter every two weeks. If I clean this filter how will this affect the tank cycling (tank only 3 weeks old) or should I only give it a quick rinse and leave some of the green stuff in the filter?. Sorry a bit new at this axy keeping.
 
Leave your filter for the moment until your tank is cycled.
 
I agree. There probably isn't enough "dirt" in the tank yet for you to need to rinse the filter out.
 
And when you clean it, only do it with old tank water - never under the tap.
 
whilst the tank is cycling leave the filter alone as this will help to build bacteria up which will help the cycling process
 
Thanks everyone, did a big clean sorting out an ammonia issue and just cleaned outside of filter. Tank levels are heading in he right direction at the moment and Timon and Pumbaa are much happier.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
