I just wanted to post that I found some great Crushed Gravel from the company Culligan, which here is a water purifing company.. It is larger than sand but in no way will choke or stop up axolotls.. it was about a dollar a pound but it Wont suck up in a shipon like sand will... it is crushed quartz... really cool stuff,. if anyone is intrested ill take a pic and show you the size,. it's still a whitish color but the only other walnut color i have found comes from Estes which specializes in gravel, I just cant get the size of their colored gravel in plain natural walnut..
just a note

If it has jagged edges (as most crushed anything does), I would hesitate to use it. Jagged pieces going through the intestines could be just as bad as those too big to be passed.

I think it looks fine.. has some rounded edges and some not so rounded edges,. but looks good to me.. What do you think ?

Doesn't look too bad. Pretty small, which is good. I bet it's easy to siphon too.

That looks fine
perhapps you could ask the company if they could crush some darker coloured stones for you

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
