Water chiller... final solution

After several weeks of fight with water temp., I decided to use water chiller instead of putting ice cubs/iced bottles to the tank. Summer this year is quite hot, and I realized, that regular (non DIY) chiller is a must.
I have only 120l water in my tank, so I bought Resun CL300 chiller. It works perfect with Eheim 2028 ProII ext. filter. This setup gives me water temp. 16 deg. C after 24 hours (with ext. temp. about 32 deg. C).

As many axies health problems are due to high temp. of the water, I can recommend this solution for most of us.

Yeah, I have a cooler as well.It was impossible to keep my axie tank below 24C. I first got a totally useless Aqua Medic Minicooler (never buy that, it is TOTALLY useless). Now I have Aquamedic Titan 150 cooler, which works perfectly. It keeps the tank at 18-19C regardless how hot it is in the room. (You could turn the cooler to keep it even a lot colder, but my axie loves 19C. If its a lot less, she doesn't want to move much)

Hello there...Sherri...I googled the aquamedic titan and the prices seem steep, did you get yours for cheap (if so please share the source!) or was it an investment?

Kat hi! Yes, the cooler was very expensive. I had to use all the money I had saved up for a holiday. It was £300, which is about US 550 dollars. You can make a cooler yourself as well, just look at the threads on this board. Good luck!

hi all, i also bought a chiller and dont know why i didnt buy one sooner, mine cost $650 but worth it, i could never get my tank below 27 degrees all year round until i bought my chiller and now keeps the tank on 17 degrees, i can even lower it to 5 degrees but never will, defiantly a worth while investment

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
