hey all i was talking to my aquariast an he said sand shouldnt be used in a tank because it impairs water flow through the substrate which results in poor bacteria growth, i told him axies swallow smaller gravel and small bits of food get in bigger gravel so wat are ur thoughts on this

i use sand much easier to keep clean. its true what he said about poor water flow so every now and again i give it a turn over. while this does make the tank dirty for a while it keeps it much healthier

I'm with Sharn on this one. If you don't put a huge thick layer down, and you stir it up on occasion, you don't have a problem with anaerobic conditions.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
