hello,I was just wondering if axolotl like to or can eat chicken livers. my daughters axolotl eats chicken pieces and axie pellets and i just thought that for a change some livers might be good for them. any ideas would be great.

thanks

Raw chicken liver is a good food "for variety". I wouldn't use it exclusively. Compared to plain chicken meat, it contains more vitamins. But it contains an excess of vitamin A, which can be bad.

I have used it to feed newts.

thanks for that, i will alternate between the chicken, chicken livers, pellets and raw prawns. just to give some variety.

You should feed your axolotl live foods like blackworms and chopped earthworms which are the healthiest. I feed my mudpuppy exclusively on 1 whole nightcrawler 3 times a week. (I will probably try some other foods once I find some)

Among those foods, the pellets are probably the best choice. If they are of good quality (and reasonably fresh), they should contain vitamins and have a good calcium balance. Earthworms and frozen bloodworm cubes are other good options.

Thanks, We are in the middle of a pretty bad drought at the moment and the soil is very dry and as a result we have no worms. I can only work with what i have. As long as these foods that i am feeding are ok then i will continue with these. once we start to get some rain the worms might come back.

Thanks for your help

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
