I've got two axolotls, but one has started nipping at the other. Although I didn't see it happen, part of one's leg is missing and I'm worried that it was bitten. I've taken the aggressive one out of the tank, but I don't have another tank to put it in, so I've left it in a bucket for a few days.

I'm going to buy another tank tomorrow. Provided I keep an eye on it and change the water every day, can the axolotl survive in the bucket for just over a week while I get the tank ready?

Yes, it should be fine if you change the water daily. Be careful that it can't jump out. If the bucket has high sides, it should be fine, they can't jump very high.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
