Hi, I want to introduce another Axie to my tank (Only have one in there atm) my question is, how do I quarantine it?

I don't have a spare tank, would an axie be okay keeping him in a bucket?? HOw long would I have to keep him serperate?

deahne - I would recommend quarantine for 30 days.

I would not recommend keeping a quarantined animal in a bucket as it will obstruct your view of the animal and make it harder to observe it for parasites and general health.

As a side note if you ever do use a bucket to keep an axolotl in for emergency purposes make sure the bucket is new and clean. Plastics can absorb chemicals and putting an axolotl into a used bucket could be deadly.

A small aquarium (10 gallon) or large clear plastic container are not very expensive. I would recommend you invest in a quarantine/sick setup before you invest in a 2nd animal.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
