Home made chiller

I can't find the post where someone posted their blueprints for a home made chiller. I am almost sure I have my design ready, but the pump they were useing was cheap and worked well for the perpose. A fountian pump or something. Anyway, here is my plans so far.

I guess the pump would have to be outside as the one I am thinking of may not work, unless I make some modifications and place it in a external pressure regulated housing.

Your pic didnt show up, but we have an icebox with hose coiled in it with water from the tank being pushed thru by a filter/pump and then back to the tank. We will fill the icebox with an ice slurry if my tank ever cycles.

Hailea HX 1500-A submersible. It sucks water in the bottom and sprays it out the top. We put it in the tank and attached a hose to where it sprays out. then the water goes down through the icebox (which reportedly keeps ice frozen for 2 weeks) and back up into the tank. By the time the pump has pushed all the water thru the hose it comes quite slowly out the other end, which I think will be good.

I can't believe how this homemade chiller thing has taken off... smiles...
anyways glad it's started the ball rolling and has helped people save some money.... and to create their own versions... I said the principle was great, and just need some personal tweaking.
Glad I contributed something useful...

more stuff in Tank set-ups, filters, substrate thread.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
