Dog Food

Here is a dumb question. Can you feed axie's dog or cat food? I ask because I was reading the axie page and in the section where it mentioned the salmon and trout pellets, it noted that they axies like their pellets soft. Well, dog food soaks in water and becomes very soft - and about the right size for their heads too. I used to feed dog food to our goldfish instead of fish food and they started getting really big. Godzilla was over a foot! The bullfrog seemed to like the dog food too, since he was always eating the bits that fell on the lilly pads. Any thoughts?

Salmon and trout pellets are made of meat. I gather you could feed them wet cat/dog food, if you rinsed off the gravy. But the dry stuff is mostly corn meal and stuff. Axolotls are strict carnivores, and don't (as a rule) eat plant matter.

I know a person that fed his axies dry cat food, however, I don't think that dog & cat food is a suitable food for axies because all the wheat, by products, additives, etc. added.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
