Just wanting to know are they worth it??? Do they keep the temperature low and at a stable temp?

My tank holds around 160 litres. What type of chiller would i need and how much would it cost?

Just asking because i am finding it really hard to keep it at a stable temp. I have ducted airconditioning and when thats on the tank stays at about 21-22 but when the aircon is turned off the temp raises to 25-26. I would keep the aircon on all the time but it gets cold in the house. And ive read that constant temp changes could stress even kill an axy.
Just looking on the net and i found

CL - 280 280 WATTS

So yeah, thanks for ya help.

Those cooling systems are great though they are very expensive. Here in Spain we have the same temperature problem and to induce breeding we use different kind of cooling systems. If you can afforded it is the best option so you can recreate a year round temperature variation. Depending on the size of your tank the cooling systems price are between 600-1500 euros. Quite expensive but by far the best cooling system.

the aquarium places i have been calling have been saying

"we don't stock them because we dont deal with salt water"

"try this place because they specialise in salt water"

can an aquarium chiller be used to cool freshwater that house axies?

Yes. If you are having trouble finding one, have a look at the online stores that deliver to your area. There is one that delivers to my area and I plan on getting my new tank from them. These stores have a great range and often have discounted prices.

If you are interested, the following link is the online store that delivers to my area and there range of chillers.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
