My 6 month 20 cm axie has started going through some unusual changes. First it change colour and became browner than it was, then it's mouth changed shape and its legs changed from little sticks to very thick and muscular, and today it developed vertical wrinkles along the sides of its body which I have seen in many axie photos. Its growth rate as slowed down, probably because it's putting all its energy into these changes. When it reaches sexual maturity will it continue to grow. Have other people noticed these changes at 6 months/20 cm. What should I anticipate next, it's all so exciting.

Those changes don't suddenly happen, Ben. They develop over time, you just haven't noticed them developing.

Yeah I only see it for a couple of minutes in the morning and the afternoon on week days (and as much as I want on weekends). Just a month ago when I had more time to watch it, it was a different colour, its mouth was a different shape etc... What should I expect to see happen next?

it will grow bigger and i noticed mine didnt look as smooth as it did when it was younger

Just check out the photo section Ben there's plenty of adults proudly on display.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
