Here are my first two axies. I got them a week ago. They are happily living in a ten gallon tank. They are about 3.5" (9cm) so I'm guessing they are around 4 months.

Yes, they are pretty sweet- but always hungry! They like to hang out at the surface when I turn off the filter because they want to be fed. If I don't come over right away they'll snap at bubbles and sometimes each other! I don't think they are very satisfied with bubbles though.

Cool piccys Maggie. Try a bag of artemia each they'll be great fun snapping and swimming all over.

PS... don't turn filter off for long periods the bacteria inside may die.

That first axolotl looks exactly like my new leucistic. Same size as well. Nice pics.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
