Stressed axie

One of my axies has some sort of strange behaviour, he is in a tank with 2 apple snails (like 2 inches wide) and everytime a snail touches him he goes berserk in the tank swimming like crazy from one side to the other....

Now I was wondering if anybody else has noticed this kind of reaction or if there is a reason?

Thanks a lot

he was probably asleep and the scary snail frightened him. I occasionally put live fresh water shrimp in with mine and if it makes contact with the smaller one especially they rocket off...I am glad I made a mesh lid for my tank, if I hadn't I would have had a damaged/ dead lotty!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
