How quick do they grow?

How long will it take for the average axie to grow to 12inches? I know they wont all grow as big or as fast as each other.

Depends on how well they're kept, good water quality conditions, temperature, feeding.

Our 6 youngest adults are 12inches + . We got them when they were 3 months old (7cm long) and by the time they were about 9-10months old they had reached 30cm in length.

Our 4 year olds are smaller than them 26-28cm.

They should usually reach their full size, whatever it will be by their 12th or 18th month. Not all axies grow to these lengths. One of our friends also got 4 axies from the same breeder at the same time and his are way smaller than ours (22-25cm) - he feeds them on frozen bloodworm cube and oxheart. Ours are mainly fed on earthworms.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
