Hi, I need help...

I'm going on vacation next week and I need to bring my axies at my friend's place so he can take care of them. What do I use to transport them?

I have a 11" wildtype and a 5" albino. I also have a few 2-3 gallons tanks. Also, do I need to keep most of the water of the original tank so there is no cycle to start over ?

Thanks

I use tupperware to transport. Fill them full of water straight out of the filter (the freshest), and put them in a cooler with a few ice packs to transport.

You can get 5 gallon buckets from home improvement stores to transport water. But the most important part is keeping the filter and the substrate wet while transporting, as that's where the most bacteria live. I usually take the filter media out of the filter and put it in a bucket of tank water to transport.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
