I'm having problems getting my new axie to eat. He absolutely *refuses* to go after any bloodworms, the brineshrimp was a COMPLETE bust (and a big mess!) and the only way he'll even eat the pellets that his previous owner fed him is if I manage to drop it directly ontop of his head.

again, he's a tiny little guy still. Around 3 inches (I *think* that equates to 8 cm...).

Some times it takes a few days for them to settle in. He might like some thing that moves. You could put some ghost shrimp in with him. Or cut up a earth worm.

thanks, I'll try that tonight... i'm thinking about a piece of earthworm on a piece of cotton... he only seems to snap at things that literally hit him on the head, atleast that way I wont have a bunch of peices of extra food to suck up with my turkey baster after feeding time.

I hate when axolotls get like that. But, as soon as it snaps out of that fussy eater stage, if will be eating like a piggy.

I usually get a bamboo tongs and put a bloodworm frozen cube in it and wiggle it in front of the guy, sometimes bonking it on the head. But, I agree, trying live worms is a good way to get the guy to start eating.
Goodluck with feeding!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
