I'm curious (since I don't know lots about axies like, say, Kapo! :D )

I want to know what type of Axolotl I have. I know he's albino because of his eyes, but he's really shiny. does that help at all?

second question... I know albino animals typically have red eyes, but Allegro has no eye pigment at ALL... I'm wondering if perhaps this is an indication of blindness... but he's not bumping into anything. Hmm...

Mine is a albino and has no pigment in his eyes. Can you post a pic? We would be able to tell you more.

I *would* be able to post a pic, except for the fact that I have no digital camera. I'll see if someone has one I can borrow... but Allegro's skin actually looks like it's iridescent. it's pretty cool

I think I know what you mean now yes it is normal . My little wild type looks like he has gold flecks on him.

it's not like little gold flecks though, lol.

okay, you know that shiny glitter gel stuff all the girls used back in middle school... I don't know, I used to walk around all the time looking like a disco ball. Or if you've ever walked past Libby Liu at the mall(i don't know if you have those in Cali) and they throw that glitter junk at you... it's not like flecks of shiny stuff, it's like all of his skin has a really thin layer of iridescent, translucent... er... stuff on it. it's reawlly pretty. but his tail has the little gold flecks...

It's hard to put into words but that is what I was trying to say. On a wild type it looks like gold. My white dose not have it. My albino is a golden he dose not have it either. It's luck of the draw. Some whites have pepper markings some don't.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
