Miles won't eat!!!!!!! Stopped eating worms about 6 days ago....tried meal worms as a treat, snapped it up (did this three days running), wouldn't eat at all last night, tonight wouldn't eat worms, or meal worms, so tried beef heart and blood worms and tried to eat meal worm, couldn't keep it down and then just stopped trying.............
Physically turns his nose up at earth worms...I don't understand, he was starting to really enjoy them!
All conditions have stayed the same, fungus, has settled down, readings normal.......
Suggestions? He was just starting to put on weight, he can't afford to lose any...

how often do you feed them??
sometimes its like that, mine occasionally dont eat for about 6 days or so, i think thats perfectly normal. one thing that always gets mine feeding is doing a water change, but adding more water than you took out(if your tank is not completely full)
this simulates the arrival of the rainy season, so it seems the axolotls realise that there will be alot of food so they need to bulk up for the dry season. at least, thats my theory.

Thats an interesting theory Alex....you may be correct in that, I might have to do some research and experiments!
I have been feeding him every night, as he is very underweight. He is 15 cm so I know he is probably getting to the point where I could feed him every couple of days, but even though he has put on weight, he is still so tiny that I worry he will starve to death if he doesn't eat soon.
I also can't understand why he has gone off earth worms so strongly....or what to do if he doesn't start eating them again very soon!
I was so proud of the weight he has put on....I just hope he manages to get over this

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
