Can you put sand on top of the gravel? What is the best sand I can use?

why bother asking the same question in two different threads please change to sand as i stated in the other thread sand from a hardware shop is fine as long as it is rinsed properly

sorry if that came off as snarky im suffering from lack of sleep.

if you have two filters what type is the one on top of the gravel?? i have had problems with undergravel filters in the past anyway albeit in a goldfish tank not axolotls.

I see what you mean Rebecca, Stephen you shouldn't ask the same question numerous times in different posts, try to stick to one.

Why bother putting sand on top of the gravel, it will be harder to clean. If the axolotl unearths a piece of gravel and eats it your back to square 1. Just remove the gravel and add sand!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
