Ugly has starting swimming to the top of the waterline, sticking her head out then dive bombing back down to the bottom of the tank, is this normal behaviour?

Her curl tail has gone now I have sorted out the filter flow, so i don't think she is stressed now and there in an air brick in tank so don't think there is a lack of O2 in the water.

Am just not sure why she has started doing the gulpping air thing.

Depends on how often she does it - if its constant or just occasional.

As a matter of interest have you checked your water parameters - ammonia, nitrite and nitrate - just to make sure.

shes a bit hit and miss - sometimes she can do it 4 - 5 times in a row others doesn't do it for hours.

checked them last week and they were ok, am due to do it again tonight

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
