Hi

Following my other thread of the query regarding raised tail, here is a picture of what I mean. (Please excuse the relection on the glass)

I suspect your axie just needs a poo... or has a little wind, which is causing the tail to be raised...I can't tell by the pic... but is that sand or gravel... if gravel, sand would be a better options.
if not already done so have a read http://www.axolotl.org as recommended on the opening page of this forum section

She is standing on corse sand - about one size up from normal sand but nowhere near as big as gravel.

Have read through all the http://www.axolotl.org/ website but couldn't find anything on them raising their tails.

Might be wind through didn't know they got that :)

I don't know for sure if this applies to axolotls, but I have read that other types of salamanders raise their heads and tails simultaneously in a defensive/threatening posture to scare away enemies. Maybe your axie is just experimenting

like when kittens bristle up their tails for no good reason just for practice LOL

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
