Heya.

My baby Axie, Glacier, is about two and a half inches long... and I'm pretty sure, due to comparisons to photos and a bit of study, that he should have all four limbs right now...

Yet, he only has three. I'm not sure if he's lost it since I got him (I was so excited at the time, I didn't pay attention to his legs) or if he never had it. I'm FAIRLY sure he never had it; no other axies in the ten gallon with him, plus, nothing that could take of a leg; it's all blunt. He gets around fine three legged, It's just he looks a bit dinky.

My question is, if the limb will regrow... how long do you reckon it will take? Several months or so?

P.S. This also holds true with his gills... I think axies are supposed to have three on each side. Well, he's got three on one side, and two on the other *with a little sort've flesh stub where the third should be*. Will it regrow as well, you think?

Thanks for your time! ^_^

When I got my axie the pet store told m all the wrong ways to take care of him. Tropical tank 80 or so degres. He was in with clown loaches barbs angels and some other not so nice fish. Sorry to get to the point all he's gills were eaten off not even nubbs maybe a few feather left. He' been in his new tank right temp right food, about a month and a half. He eats alot 3 cubes a day. His gills are bigger than ever lots of feather part. gotten a little longer and double in girth. If he lost them he will grow them back with the right care. But if he was born that way I dont think he will. All gills can be diffreant like finger prints.

It might have got attacked before u got it but i think it is just a deformity. Its not really affecting him is it. It takes about 3-12 weeks to regernerate limbs. I wouldn't worry about it.

How long have you had it? Yours is still pretty young. (maybe 2-3months)The limbs/gills will regenerate (can't remember how long) but poss. several weeks to maybe just over month or so.

When i first bought my axies both of them only had 3 legs - the missing leg soon grew to be the same size as the others - shame as i had already named one of them Stumpy!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
