Hi i have just put my two little axies in there new tank that has just finished cycling but since they have been in it i have not seen them go up for air, i have been watching them for about 1 hour. The tank is 3ft before they where only in a small plastic container and they where always going up for air. In the tank i have some plant's and an air stone. Is this normal ?

Small bodies of water with no movement tend to have little dissolved oxygen, so they were gulping from the surface. Now that you have an air stone and plants, they're getting more oxygen through their gills and don't need to gulp. This is completely normal.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
