Not as nutritious as live, gutloaded crickets or earthworms, but if you thaw them first, I don't see where they'd be a problem.

Gutloading is a term that technically only refers to feeding the prey item a high calcium diet to adjust it calcium to phosphorus ratio (and is still used this way in the literature) but to the hobbyist community has become to mean any diet fed to the prey item with the intent to try and modify its nutritional content. As most people do not investigate the nutritional content of the animal before feeding the items, the impact of the "gutloading" diet is unknown.

If you are using commercially aquired live invertebrates, then they should be fed a diet for at least 48 hours before feeding them out to allow for the replacement of minerals, protiens and fats lost in shipment and while they were held at the pet store.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
