Hello all,

Just wondering if Sucking Cat-Fish are all right to put in the tank with Axies, just to keep the tank clean.

Any help is appreciated,
~Emily.

Be careful my brother had a cat fish (Not sure what type) in his tank with his Axolotl, The Axolotl ate the cat fish but it got lodged in its throat due to the spines on the catfish & the axolotl died, As I said not sure what sort of catfish it was!

we generally advise against people keeping anything other than snails with their axies- and even then you can have probs!

as melissa said they can get lodged in their throats and ive heard of cases where the cat fish sucks the coating off the axie! if you want to keep the tank clean get some snails or invest in a little more elbow grease lol

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
