My axie tadpole has, what looks like a bubble in its tummy and is floating upside down. Not too sure what to do... Any suggestions??
Thank-you

By tadpole do you mean that he hasn't developed legs or anything yet? And I do not have much experience with axolotls at this age but I hear that it isn't to uncommon for a small axie to get swallow air and have problems. But I don't think they normally float upside down. I'm not to sure about what you would do except just wait for it to pass.

no sorry tadpole isn't correct, he has legs and arms and is quite developed about 10cm

Feed it. This should cause the air bubble to pass. At this stage, it should be eating earthworm chunks or equivalent. I would still be feeding it on a daily basis. They're not called tadpoles, this is reserved for frog larvae. Yours would be called a juvenile axolotl.

Rose - You should put it in a smaller container of water with just enough water to cover it. This may help it get its footing and be able to stay right side up. Keep the water clean and cool.

If this does not seem to be helping it you could try very gently massaging its belly. Do not over do it, touching it will rub off its protective slime coat.

Could you tell us how long you have had it, what you have been feeding it and how long has its tank been set up?

Do you have a test kit so you can test the tank water?

Thanks so much for the advice, i put my axie in shallow water, and gave its belly a gentle rub, and now two days later all is good. Thanks again

Thats good news Rose

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
