Maybe you can think of a better word than the one you are using to describe fecal matter? Like say, detritus, feces, poop or waste? There are many synonyms for the word that don't need to be censored out. Many people on this forum speak English as a second language and being clear and precise with our writing helps them and every other person to understand you.

I don't keep Axolotls, but I keep my sand clean by doing exactly what you do; regular water changes using a gravel vacuum and sucking out any additional waste with a turkey baster. I consider this to be a very small amount of effort to keep my newts happy.

Also take into account the size of the tank, the number of animals, the quality of the filter, and the amount they eat. You can reduce the amount of "detritus, feces, poop or waste";) by having a larger tank, fewer animals, a bigger filter, or feeding them less. Axolotls are messy animals, there's no avoiding it.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
