My name is Joshua and I am getting into the hobby. I have been reading most everything I could get my hands on in order to house newts. I would like to start out with a couple CO and have been working to setup my tank.

In addition to newts my other hobbies include creating comic strips and working on computers. I am currently employed as a Helpdesk Technician at Idaho State University and am working on my CIS degree.

Nice to meet you all,
~Joshua

Welcome, Joshua!

I'm glad to hear you have been reading up and are planning on getting some newts. I'm sure you have already found the Caudata Culture website with its useful articles and species care sheets.

I had the same job as you did when I was attending university. I still like to tinker with computers but I certainly wouldn't want to do it for a living. Good luck with you CIS degree! I hope we can see some pictures of your newt tank and animals when you buy them.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
