Asian Newt Group
Hello everyone
I wondered if any of you could help me. I purchased two Chinese fire-bellied newts about two weeks ago, and thanks to this wonderful site I've so far had healthy and content critters.
However, my girlfriend noticed today that my significantly smaller newt, Maximus, is missing his left forelimb. Either the bone is protruding or there is some kind of white gel around the stub.
I'm aware newts regenerate but I'm worried that in his present state (the store I bought them from weren't too quick on newt health) he won't be able to. I've dosed him with the suitable amount of diluted Melafix and attempted to feed him, but he won't eat. I'm also unfortunately aware that this refusal to eat can be fatal.
Any advice on how to deal with the problem would be lovely and much appreciated - I wouldn't want to lose him so early on.
Thanks for your time,
Lu
