Good day to you!

My name is Lu from Nottingham and I have nothing but absolute praise for the site creators and the members. Such a very helpful lot. :D

I hope as I spend more time here I'll become as knowledgeable as you loverly critter-lovers! I hope your amphibians are well and you're having yourselves lovely summer days.

Welcome Lu. I dare say you may have offended some people by calling them reptiles. Newts, salamanders, frogs and toads are amphibians and as such are very far from being reptiles. For example, like you and I, reptiles have a 4 chambered heart; amphibians have a 3 chambered heart. In fact personally I can think of more similarities between you, I and a reptile than I can between a reptile and an amphibian. You and I are backboned animals, as are reptiles and amphibians. We are all members of the classification Phylum Chordata, sub-phylum Vertebrata. Within that sub-phylum, we are in class Mammalia. Reptiles are class Reptilia, and amphibians are class Amphibia. So science views Reptiles as being at least as different from Amphibians as we are. Something to keep in mind.

Best wishes,

-John

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
