I have an adult female who is in an aquatic set up with some floating cork and java moss. I also have a juvinile who is in a terrestial set up.
Space is becoming a bit of an issue so I would like to keep these two together.
So a couple of questions....
Will she try to eat the smaller one, she is about 4 inches compared to the youngsters 2 inches?
Should I set up a 50/50 tank for them?
Thanks
Maddie

In my experience, an adult alpine is unlikely to try to eat something that big. If the setup has plenty of hiding places and the animals are well-fed, the risk would be small (but not quite zero). The bigger problem will be to arrange a setup where both of them are comfortable and willing to eat.

I now routinely raise alpine newt larvae in the same (well planted) tank as the well fed adults.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
