I recently found 3 Salamanders. I live in Oklahoma and am not very sure what type they are. They are black with a yellowish camo type pattern on their backs. I set up a home for then half water half sand. They will only stay in the sand and they burrow down in it. What does that mean? I also got them some food out of a store and they have completely snubbed that....Im not real sure what to feed them...any advice???

They sound like tiger salamanders. They are terrestrial salamanders. It is best to set them up with soil/leaf litter and hides like logs and driftwood with just a small dish of water. They will eat earthworms (night crawlers), crickets, small spiders, etc.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
