hello i have just tried to clean my gravel with a gravel cleaner and while trying to suck up the dirt all that has been accomplished is making it spread. What is the best way to clean the gravel?

if you have a large bin or container empty as much water as you can into it then scoop gravel out.
make sure axie isnt in there first lol put him in a container with some of his water.
clean out tank and replace water and axie

Yes I agree, basically remove the gravel. As you've found out, there's alot of hidden dirt/gunk that builds up beneath the gravel (and filter plate if you have an UG filter).

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
