Hey, just another random question:
I always find my 2 FBs cuddling. as in, laying right on top of each other. Is this normal? Does it mean they like each other? Or could is be a sign of distress (ie water is too cold?)?

They are not social animals, although some species can be quite gregarious. Are they on the land? If so the most likely explanation is that where you find them together has the most favourable conditions (humidity, temperature, security etc). In my experience Cynops are not particularly gregarious – in comparison with Triturus for example. You may want add more suitable hides.

Newts like cold water! You're more likely to have the water too warm than cold. What temperature are they kept at?

I find them on a piece of land that has fake plants, so i guess that is the reason. I'm saving up money to upgrade my tank and plan on adding more hiding spots and plants. The water is def cool enough now that i've checked it, it was more of a 'what could it beee?' suggestion, haha.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
