hi im new here and i just want to ask why my axolotl keeps biting my hand (not that it hurts)but does this mean he's agressive towards me?

He probably thinks its food, ours tend to do that as well when we're cleaning the tank - trying to grab the siphon or turkey baster. How big is he and how often do you feed him and what with?

Hi Volt,

I have just fed both my axies, after being away for three days and got bitten by both, they watched me approach I think and were on me straight away.Hendrix my adult actually swallowed my finger and shook as if he was trying to tear of a chunk.\

Thank God they don't have teeth.

I agree with Kapo probably just hungry. I have managed to train them to be fed at each end of the tank but not to wait patiently.

thanks for replying he's about 18 cm long, i feed him every 2nd day with frozen bloodworms and every now and then i give him some pellets, also he did try to swallow and tear my finger off once but he was unsuccessful :)

ive had one of mine hang off the end of my finger as ive pulled away. little bull dog boo is when hungry :p

yeah my pair try it at feeding time although i've never actually had either one bite me.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
